My method (in a nutshell)
Basically I solve big cubes the same way I solve the 4x4x4 and
5x5x5. First I solve all the centers, making sure they're oriented correctly
with each other if it's an even cube. Then I solve all the edges. Finally I
solve the cube as if it were a rubik's cube, only I treat each edge piece
group as one edge piece and each center group as one center piece. Sounds
easy huh? It is! There are only a few things different about my 4x4x4
solution and this solution, a few situations that come up because of the
bigger size of each face but other than that it is not hard at
all.

Though far from a solution this may give you some ideas on how to solve the
larger cubes. I am still working on the solution, hopefully it will be up
some time this summer.
